I find myself waiting for Henry and Kyle to get home from school and for Liz and Adella to get here with 15 minutes or so to spare, so I thought I'd do a quick update.

Henry went trick or treating at school today so I am anxious to see how his chicken robot costume went over. They were supposed to only get "nutritional" items, but I have my doubts. Liz and Adella are coming over and we are going to head down to Vermont Ave, the place to be on Halloween. I am hoping to take more pictures this year so you can get a sense of what it is like down there. They really go all out. I think this will be the first year that Henry really "gets" it. He has been talking about costumes and trick or treating over the last few days, so we'll see. He is still adjusting to the time change (at least he slept in until 6 this morning) so I am sure the candy overload is going to be awesome to deal with tonight and tomorrow. Yeah, yeah, I could just not let him eat it, but where's the fun in that?

Oh, the bean is home. I must go hear about his day. Hopefully I'll be back later with pictures.

I had a little "bad mama" moment yesterday morning that I'd like to share with the class. I know! Me! Perfect mothering personified! See, it really can happen to anyone. Anyway...

Thursday night at about 9pm Kyle informed me that the kids at the preschool were trick or treating around the high school the NEXT DAY. Thanks for the notice, champ! Henry's chicken robot costume had taken some damage on the ride home from Ada's birthday/Halloween party and so some pieces needed to be glued back on. I went back and forth about even sending the costume because it is such a pain, but Kyle said he'd go down and help Henry get in and out of it and he really seemed to want to show it off so I agreed. Right before I fell asleep on the couch. Yesterday morning I woke up and remembered that I still had to fix the costume in addition to the usual running around routine before work. I grabbed the costume and started hot glueing the parts back on while Kyle got Henry up. Of course, halfway through, Henry had some sort of a breakdown about me taking him to the potty so I did. And forgot about the hot glue gun. See where this is going? Henry came out of teh potty and, while I was searching for his shoes, grabbed onto the 8 gajillion degree tip of the hot glue gun. It got glue all over his little fingers that I had to peel off. He started saying "It's hot! Help me cool it down! Help me make it colder!". Poor kid. After we iced it for a few minutes and got a cookie monster band aid he calmed down an was alright, but he has burn blisters on his thumb and middle finger. BAD MAMA! He has been insisting that his fingers don't hurt anymore, but I still feel like the Queen Asshole for leaving a hot glue gun plugged in where he could get to it. That is like Parenting 101.

There is a big fiber fair at teh Ag Center today. They have all types of fiber and yarn and even the animals that the yarn comes from. I thought about going, but it would be no fun by myself. LIZ! Why do you have to work? While you spend all day giving pills to old people we could be out fondling alpaca! *sigh* Such is life in the working class world, huh? It would probably just be frustrating since we couldn't afford to buy any of that fancy pants yarn anyway.

Ooooh, Kyle just came back from visiting our neighbor who just got back from vacation (the older Baptist woman who he always talks religion with) and she brought us 2 boxes of chocolate and a bag of sweet potatoes. Yes, sweet potatoes are a strange thing to bring back from vacation, but whatever. I feel bad because I don't enjoy talking Bible with her like Kyle does. She is super duper nice, but I always get the tiny feeling that she has befriended us to try to save Henry's soul.

Oh look, it's Billy Jonas signing Henry's tshirt. Thanks Blogger!

OKay! Finally I can update! I sat down to do it last night and Blogger was down. Pth.

Lots of things have been happening around here making it hard to find time to write it all down. My folks came into town this past weekend and we went to the LEAF festival, which was way too much fun. Henry and I LOVED Billy Jonas!!! We even got to go and get his "Bang a Bucket" shirt signed after the second show. Okay. Thats sucks. The picture upload function isn't working for me right now. No fair!

Picture Billy Jonas signing Henry's shirt here.

My dad and Kyle had fun there, too, but really loved Ritchie Havens, who played on Saturday night while my mom and I tried to keep henry warm inside Eden Hall. It was pretty chilly out. Ot maybe we are just big wimps. Either way, we had a blast.

Work has been absolutely crazy. Knitting work, I mean. I just got caught up, but now I am comepletely buried again. I just made a run to the yarn store and bought an obscene amount of yarn on sale. Go me!

Today at work I tattled on a teacher to the vice principal. I know. I am not going to be the most popular girl in school. One of the teachers whose class I work with is super duper religious guy. He got his doctorate at Bob Jones University. Anyway, today while we were in reading groups I could hear him reading to the kids about the Crucifixion and how Jesus died for our sins. He went on to talk about how when we die we close our eyes and stop breathing, but if we believe that Jesus dies for our sins, we'll go to Heaven. WTF??? I was so irritated. I like the guy as a person, but I thought that was completely inappropriate. I went back and forth about saying something directly to him, but even if I wanted to (which I didn't) I don't have an opportunity to talk to him without kids around. So I went to the VP and just told her that I thought she should know because as a parent I would be LIVID if Henry came home and told me his teacher was teaching them that stuff. Maybe I justs till have my panties in a twist because Henry says grace at school, but I really felt like I had to say something. She said that she knows there is a fine line between teaching religion and teachign ABOUT religion and that the upcoming holidays were a prefect time to remind people to stay behind that line at school. *sigh* I think I am destined to be the annoying person that seems to stir the pot. That isn't my intention at all, I just feel the need to represent the other side. On a funnier but just as disturbing note...a kid in line today told me he was going to show me a picture of him mom that he kept in his wallet. I was like "Oh, how nice you have a picture of your mom". Until I saw it. It was a picture of his mom in a nighty kind of thing with a big ole slit up the side posed seductively on a rock. It looksed like a business card for her "modelling" services. He then told me she had 3 websites. This other kid was like "Dude, that's your mom? You are so lucky". Ummmm........I don't think so.

Not too much else is really going on here. I am just knitting and working. We tried to watch Monster House last night but fell asleep. Both of us. By 9:30. So as you can see, lots of unexciting things are happening. I will try to be better about updating. Pinky swear.

It's been a busy week in the Kett household! I got a job! Hopefully starting Monday, I'll be teaching reading to second and third graders at a local elementary school half time. It is from 8-12, perfect timing for me to be abel to work and get my foot in the door in the district, but still have time to keep the business alive and study and things.

I started studying for the GRE. Not pretty. My math is pretty horrific, but I'm plugging through. I also signed up at a gym. I had an appointment with a personal trainer yesterday, the free one they give you with the membership to try to get you to sign up for a bunch of personal training appointments. Yeah, that isn't going to happen. Anyway, it was a pretty sad affair. He said he took it easy on me, but my legs, which aren't used at ALL in knitting, didn't agree. I am in pretty bad shape. I went back this morning and did some cardio, biceps, triceps and back muscles and now I am pretty sore. I'll have to do some serious stretching before bed tonight so I don't wake up a mess.

Oh! I forgot I have to pick up Henry from school today. I'd better go take a shower so the other kids don't make fun of him for having a stinky mom.

*yawn*

Well, I probably should be knitting up a storm this morning, but my hand has been cramping up so I think I am going to give it a short rest and maybe sit down and take a practice GRE. Scary!

My first order for Mahar goes into the mail today:

I have to say that I'm a little nervous about the whole venture. He has been getting a lot of press lately, so secretly I am hoping that one of these days I'll get a call from someone famous wanting to cover their baby's bum with some Crankypants, lol. McDreamy is having twins, maybe they'll need some monster pants!

I'm such a dork.

For my Daddy...

The poor guy has been asking for his yearly motorcycle picture for 3 months now. It looks like next year might be the last birthday on the bike picture before the motorcycle is handed down to little Fredward. He's getting so BIG!

Well things have truly been a madhouse over here.

My interview on Thursday went well, but she said she had some more people to see on Friday, so I am expecting to hear something tomorrow. It was a cute little school and the principal was super nice, so I am crossing my fingers that I get it.

I also got my letter from WCU saying to go ahead and submit my complete application to the NC Teach program. That means that I have to apply and be accpeted to the WCU Masters of Teaching program. That means I need to get 3 letters of rec together, get a sealed official reanscript and take and pass the GRE. I really need to start studying. If I want to start in January I really need to get the ball rolling. I feel okay about the Language Arts sections, but the Math is going to kick my ass. I already have emails in for the letters of rec. and my transcripts have been requested.

Yesterday we decided to take Henry to the Sky Top Orchard to bum around and eat a caramel apple. He was in kind of a grumpy mood so we didn't stay long.

After that we decided to stop at Piggie's Ice Cream and BBQ in Henrdersonville because it seemed prtty cool from the little guidebook we had in the car. It was awesome. It was just a basic hamburger and hot dog place, but it was a lot of fun. Kyle got a chocolate malt bigger than his head and Henry had to get in on that action. He was in a lot better of a mood after that adn still managed to fall asleep in the car.

Okay. I have a to do list about a mile long so I'd better get jumping...
