Bam and Kevin got here late Saturday evening and we have been having a good ole time catching up. There has been a distinct lack of fun activities, but we have been hanging around enjoying each others' company. I tried to drag them to the yarn store this morning, but, to their great diappointment I'm sure, it was closed on Mondays. We went to the toy store instead and Bam bought Henry a playmobile jungle set. Pretty cool, although now we ahve completely replaced all of the toys I got rid of this weekend at the sale.

I have to run back out to the Ag Center in a few minutes to pick up whatever didn't sell. I should have kept a list of everything I put up for sale and the prices so I could have a total in my head of what I should have made but I didn't think of that until just now. Next time I will be far more organized. Or at lkeast that's what I'll tell myself until next time.

I put 4 things up on the Hyena Cart today at noon. Two things I already made and 2 semi custom slots. We got home from our adventures at 1 and the 2 custom slots were already gone. Yay! I still have to work some things out with the cart, though. It is still charging people twice for shipping and I can't figure out why. Ah well. I'll poke around in there later and try to suss it out. It is getting a little irritating, though, because I was feeling like a smartypants for fixing the problem myself last time.

I also received a wholesale list froma woman who does batik shirts. They are gorgeous (www.cutiepiecreationsbatik.com) and I can't wait to buy a bunch to pair up with the new super duper soft shorts I am going to make with the malabrigo yarn I have sitting about. I think I am just going to order the shirts and take pictures of the yarn and offer up semi custom slots instead of knitting them up first. It seem like there would be a wider appeal that way.

Okay. Time to run off to the Ag Center. Later gators.

It seems that I have fallen into a Twilight Zone world of no plan ever going smoothly ever again.

We went to Bed, Bath & Beyond with there would be so much cute stuff I wouldn't be able to contain my spending. There was nothing. No cute boy stuff at ALL. Don't the manufacturers of kids' gear know that there are boys out there? There are more boys than girls! And no one makes cool boys' stuff! Do they not see the niche just waiting to be filled? Gah. So I dragged Henry out of there screaming for the train, which is in the Barnes and Noble next door. Good thinking, mama. We then hit SUPERWalmart to look for sheets some more. Nope. Nothing. I did score some jungle print fabric I am going to make into curtains for him to replace the god awful tie dye that he picked out last time. The fabric and some mini Charleston Chews. That was our whole haul. We had about 45 minutes left until we were supposed to meet Kyle and his kids for lunch, so we headed over to that side of town (East Asheville) to see if we could find a mattress. After looking around for a while and being given the choice between an ultra cheap mattress that would have to be replaced in a year and probably give Henry scoliosis or a more expensive one that would hit a little hard but last a long time I chose the latter. "Better to invest in a good mattress", I told myself as I rubbed the spot on my back where our one year old mattress digs in every night. I paid for it and arranged to pick it up on our way home from lunch.

We headed off to Asiana, arrived perfectly on time and waited in the lobby looking at the "BIG shish!" in the tank. I heard my cell phone ring and my heart sank. Yup, it was Kyle. Apparently it has been a yearly tradition to go to the Asiana in WEST Asheville. Where we had just come from. On the complete opposite side of town. Oops. SO I decided to scap Asiana and just get Henry a quick lunch and get him home for a nap. Except that I had spent the last hour psyching Henry up for a special lunch with Daddy ("Lunch with Daddy? No, Daddy's at work!") so he wasn't letting it go that easy. I decided to just pick the mattress up when we came BACK over to that side of town to pick Kyle up from work and we headed over to West Asheville to meet Kyle and his kids. Whew! Finally we were all sitting-we being Kyle, Henry and I, 5 other staff members and 30 special ed. kids-relaxing and enjoying our supah Asian buffet (I know, buffets are gross, but this one can be good sometimes) when the fire alarm goes off. Oh, surely it is just a fluke test of the system, they'll turn it off in no time. Ummm...no. One of Kyle's kids came running in waving his hand and telling everyone that the kitchen was on fire and we had to get out. Nothing like screaming FIRE into a room of special ed. kids. Henry and I rushed out the front door so Kyle could take care of his kids, past the kitched, where a gas line had broken and fire was shooting out everywhere with the sprinkler system making a futile effort to put it out. They somehow managed to get all of the kids out onto the front sidewalk when the fire engines roared up. Henry got a kick out of that. The kids were doing great until an employee came out and told us they were closing down and we'd all have to go. They kids were less than thrilled and many explicatives were heard. I am thinking that the rest of Kyle's day is going to be...rough.

So now let's check the list.
Mattress has been purchased.
Drape fabric has been purchased.
Lunch has been had.
Laundry is in.

Now off to tackle the rest of that thing...

Yesterday henry and I ventured out to a class called MIghty Mites. It is held at a local gym-gym like gymnastics, not gym like nautilus machines. Oh. My. Gah. We had such a good time. They had a huge obstacle course set up with all sorts of things to climb on and jump in, on or over. They had 2 big trampolines (flush to the floor, so not falling danger) and a huge pit full of foam cubes. Henry was scared to jump on on his own, but he loved it when I held his hand and we jumped in together. He had way too much fun. I liked it because they set up the course, but they encouraged the kids to all start in different places so it wasn't a competition. Most of the kids just ran around willy nilly like a bunch of little maniacs and that was fine, too. As we were trying to get the kids together to go, a little gymnastics class started. The kids were probably 3-4. Henry pulled up a mat and joined them! I was going to pull him out, but he followed all of her instructions (and she didn't seem to mind him being there, she asked his name and said hi), so I just hung back to see what would happen. After about 5 minutes or so he saw me and came over to join our group, but I was impressed with how well he was following her directions. He did cat and cow poses with her, child's pose and then rolled over onto his back and made a fereble attempt at a bridge. I think the bridge is what made him happy to come back to us, it was a bit beyond him.

After we picked up Kyle, he told me that a fellow teacher had clued him in to a big 75% sale going on at Target so, even though I had a bunch of work to do on the sale stuff before dropping it off at 7, we went up there. They are apparently closing out their "World Market" line, so all off that stuff was on sale. It was pretty picked through by the time we got there, but we still scored. We bought a queen sized green Chinese quilt, a hand quilted Portugese throw (so pretty, like a clay color) and a Japanese vase. It should have been $160 or so and we paid just over $40. WooHoo! Now we can throw out some of those nasty old blankets we have.

After that we raced home so I could frantically load up the car with Henry's crib and bedding, old clothes and some toys he doesn't play with anymore-all meticulously tagged-and race off to the drop off point. It was crazy. This sale, called Wee Trade, is held in the Ag Center. Like where they have rodeos. It is HUGE, like a stadium. The whole floor was filled with baby/kid gear. I was shocked and awed. It took me a little over an hour to check in and have my items inspected to see if they were worthy of the sale. I only had 2 rejects-aparently cords are Fall, not Spring. Tonight is the pre-sale, so I'll be there with bells on looking for good deals for Henry. The volunteers get first pick at 5 and then sellers get to go at 6. It is all very formal and scary. I've heard tell of women being elbowed down and then trampled trying to get to the last Wiggles guitar or Hannah Anderson sleeper. All we need are some warm weather clothes.

I came home to a perfectly assembled, brand new, big boy bed in Henry's room! Unfortunately, I hadn't had time to get a mattress yet, so he had his last night on the futon last night. I am on a mission this morning to find him a mattress and the cutest beddng ever for tonight. This whole bed thign has awakened the urge for him to have a super cute room. I am going to the fabric store today as well to get some fabric to make him new curtains, and I'm going to put up his vintage animal cards this afternoon. I can't wait until it's all done! I also want one of those big leaves from IKEA. I still can't figure out how to insert pictures, so you'lll have to take my word how cool it is. I might try to finagle my way into IKEA when we are visiting the folks and bring home some booty for the bean's new room. Okay, I really shouldn't have just gone to that website. Dangerous, my darlings, dangerous.

Today's To Do List:
Buy mattress
Buy cute sheets
Buy fabric for drapes
Make drapes
Finish rainforest shorts
Take pictures of new stock
Update store
Mail packages
Laundrylaundrylaundry
lunch with Kyle's kids
Wee Trade tonight

Super fun day. Foam pit involved. More tomorrow. Must sleep. Posted by Picasa

A little light reading on the potty. Posted by Picasa

This is what you get when you say "Smile". He's reading Once Upon a Potty on the potty. Posted by Picasa

We just experienced a major potty catastrophy.

We had to wake Henry up to put him in the car to drive Kyle to work this morning, so I didn't ahve a chance to change him beforehand. He wasn't very wet, so it didn't seem like a big deal. After we dropped them off, I stopped at the dry cleaners to pick up some wire hangers (for the big sale I'm participating in tomorrow, everything has to be on wire hangers) and then thought it would be fun to get a coffee and a bagel at the local bakery and let Henry play with all of their cool toys for a bit. We styed for about a half hour and then headed home. I let him walk in front of me in the door, and as he waslked, a large dark spot began spreading across his bottom. His diaper had thrown in the towel. When I took it off of him, it weighed about 25lbs. BAD mama! SO...I thought I'd let him run around naked for a bit to dry off. Since we have read the pooty book 8 million times, I thought he'd let me know if he had to go. Um...no. Sorry mom, this might turn J and K off having kids forever...

I saw him standing kind of still, so I asked him if he wanted to go to the potty. He said no. I was going to pick him up and take him anyway, when he widened his stance and just let a big ole poop fly ointo the carpet. It was solid, so I went to grab him and put him on the potty to finish up, so I could cheer and be happy for him for going in the potty. As I picked him up, I instinctively put one hand over his bottom in case another poop came out. Yeah. It wasn't so much "a" poop as it was "some" poop. And when we got to the potty I remembered that his potty seat was in the other room because he had worn it around the hosue as a hat the night before. So. There I am. One hand full of poop, the other hand trying to hold Henry on the big potty so he doens't fall in, with no way of making the situation progress. I had to hold him there and stretch over to the sink and turn it on with my wrist to wash the poop off. I then wiped Henry's bottom and let him get down, not noticing that I hadn't caught all of the poop and it was all down his legs and my pants and the toilet. Awesome! I had to put him in the tub to clean him and the bathroom up before getting the poop off of the carpet, which wasn't as solid as I had thought. As I was on my hands and knees scrubbing the poop out of the carpet, I hear a tiny little "uh oh" from behind me and turn to see Henry peeing on the carpet outside of the bathroom door. Jeez louise, he was JUST sitting on the potty! But no, he waited until he was back on the carpet to pee. So I stopped what I was doing, sprayed everything with carpet cleaner and put a diaper on that leaky little bottom end. I am taking note of the time so I can plop him down on the potty for a good long time tomorrow and hope for better results.

Now we have to get ready (I need to sanitize my whole body and change my clothes) to go to the baby gymnastics class we somehow got talked into. Then come home and finish painting the bed and getting everything ready for this sale. And stocking my store and finishing these shorts I'm working on. And sending out some packages. And they lived happily ever after...

Wednesday, February 22, 2006

So I had yesterday afternoon all planned out. Henry and I would pick up Kyle from work and then we would go pick up the new bed, which would slide effortlessly into the back of the van. We would then go to Babies R Us where we would pick out brand new sheets and a guard rail for the new bed. We would then go find a mattress. After all this was done, it would be dinner time, so we would go to The Mellow Mushroom for pizza, since Tuesday is locals get 25% off night. We would take all of Henry's new big boy sleeping gear home and set it up (once again, effortlessly) and tuck him in to bed, singing traa la la all the while.

Here's what really happened:

I picked up Kyle from work and we went to pick up the new bed. We quickly discovered that it would need to be taken apart in order to fit it into the van. The people at the store quickly dispatched two 98 year old men to help us with the task of taking it all apart and loading it into the car. It took about a half an hour. I feel lucky that neither of them had a heart attack and lived their last moments on Henry's new bed. When I filled Kyle in on the next step of the plan-Babies R Us- he informed me of HIS plan. Instead of the cute baby store, we were en route to Lowe's where we would get a pice of wood to fashion a guard rail (WHAT?) and some paint to paint the new bed blue. Okay. Blue would be cute. I wasn't so sure about the hillbilly guard rail, though. After another 45 minutes chasing Henry around that evil place, I was in a horrid mood and ready to just get home. I managed to talk Kyle out of the wooden guard rail idea, but he wasn't happy about it. We got home and realized that it was almost dark. I watched the bean and made some fairly decent chicken quesadillas for dinner while Kyle rushed a priming job, trying to beat the sunset. He finished in the dark. I broached the subject of a mattress pad for when Henry starts going without diapers at night. He suggested that instead of buying a mattress pad, we should just wrap the mattress in plastic. Again I say- WHAT? He didn't seem to think that Henry would mind sleeping on a plastic wrapped mattress that crinkled all over the place. But that is an argument I can save for a few months, since Henry currently seems to be on the "diapers in high school" track.

So. I decided to take Henry to Babies R Us this morning to see if I could find cute sheets. Yeah, they only have crib sheets there. I ended up chasing Henry around the store counting to 3 to try to get him to listen to me. I probably sounded like a maniac. We emerged into the sunlight an hour later with our massive and important purchases: 2 boxes of Sesame Street crackers and a Bob the Builder potty seat. Awesome.

On the way home, I remembered about this house I saw in the For Sale by Owner magazine the other day. I decided that I would drive by it while trying to get Henry to fall asleep in the car. I had called and gotten directions last week. It was prices at 127k, so I figured it would go pretty fast. I turned off Brevard and down a side street past all sorts of industrial parks. Not a gorgeous route to home, but I could live with it. The road the house was on looked like someone's driveway. If someone was coming the other way, I'm not quite sure what we would have done. A couple of trailers, again, not ideal, but in a town with no zoning, trailers are pretty much everywhere. A tiny shack with broken windown that looked to be full to the roof with crap. Umm...not really loving this street. A cute house! Oh, but it has one of those old school dark black skinned lawn jockies next to the mailbox. Kind of offensive, but maybe they aren't racist, just old and out of it. The end of the road. A For Sale by Owner sign. The house isn't bad, but there is a super old looking teensy red barn right next to it. I wonder if that is part of the deal. It has a tiny little loft with hay where chickens would go. This thing is small, slightly larger than the storage shed in the back of the house I grew up in, and lots of people keep chickens around here. I crane my neck to see if there are any chickens in there and...I shit you not...a donkey pokes its head out the barn door to see what's going on. A donkey. WTF??? As I decide to get the hell out of there before "Dueling Banjos" starts up, I realize I am sitting on this road, directly in front of a house, with no way to turn around and get out. I finally managed to back into a driveway about 50 ft. down and go home, Henry finally asleep in the backseat.

I spent the first part of Henry's nap painting the drawers and cross beams of his bed. I'm leaving the rest for Kyle to do when he gets home. I should be working on stocking my store, but I just don't feel like it.

OH! The yarn I bought yesterday! It is amazing. It is the softest yarn I have ever knit with in my life. I am loving it. Going back to teh other stuff is going to be painful. Wah.

We get to go pick up Henry's new bed today, I can't wait! While he was at co-op today I went to Target and found a cute sheet set with bugs and things all over it. I then came home and packed and labelled a bunch of stuff for the Wee Trade sale this weekend. I am going to try to get rid of some of his big things that he doesn't use anymore. Bye bye crib! That room is going to seem so much more open when we're all done.

After organizing all of that stuff, I rewarded myself wit a trip to the fancy yarn store. I had a gift certificate, but I still ended up spending $20. I bought 4 skeins of that same Uruguan merino that I am going to get wholesale on later this year. I wanted to try out some of the colors. Man are they gorgeous! I got a black and redish one, a lighter green, a dark green/brown/purple and a purple brown and yellow. They are so pretty. I am going to knit up some shorts with it and probably pick the best air to keep for Henry and sell the rest. I figured I can do the cute designs with the cheaper yarn and do juct plain ones with the higher quality hand dyes. I might pair them with cute little shirts if I can find someone to do some cheaply. We shall see. I am knitting up the dark green/brown/purple right now and they are perty. And the yarn ladies there were super duper nice. That place could get dangerous.

We are picking up Kyle at 3:30, then to get the bed, and then I am going to go to Babies 'R' Us to get some supplies for the new bed. Maybe one more set of sheets, a guard rail and he is going to need little steps or something to get into it. And I'm going to look at potties while we're there. The on we have is awful. If by some miracle he actually DID pee while sitting on it, the chances of a single drop actually making it into the potty would be slim to none. Poor design. Sometimes you don't know something is badly made until after you try to use it. Even if Kyle gets a kick out of it being a "Pooh" potty. Get it? Yeah, he's 12.

We came in 2nd at tricia last night. Not bad. There was a new guy there that looked just like Nate Berkus. I asked him if he got that a lot and everyone at the table looked at me like I was crazy. No one knew who he was. When I told them he was Oprah's interior decorator I cemented my place in the group as television addicted pop culture girl. They didn't believe me that he was a famous person. He is, right? You guys know who Nate Berkus is, right? Or am I just crazy? I had just told them about the Project Runway marathon I had watched this weekend, so I don't think that helped either. Hey, it's not my fault they are a bunch of Luddites without cable.

I finished a scarf for Sara's mama today at knitting playgroup. Yay! When I get a chance, I'll posta picture of it. It is not super fancy, just a drop stitch number in varigated yarn, but I think it turned out perty and I hope that every time she wears it she feels her daughter giving her a big fat hug. Now back to pants. BO-ring.

Henry has decided that naps are for suckers. He has also decided that his new bedtime is 10pm, pth. Since I go to bed at 10:02pm, this new development seriously cuts in on my "me" time. He is currently laying about 2 feet away from the tv watching Blue's Clues and smiling to himself. This morning he asked to watch fSesam Street Karaoke on the computer. I put it in and went to do dishes. When I came back in to check on him, he had found my old microphone and was gleefully singing "The People in Your Neighborhood" into it, right along with Bob. Yeah, he's pretty damn cool, that kid.

Playgroup was pretty rough today. All the kids are getting over being sick, so they are readjusting to getting all together again. There was pushing, hitting and much stealing of toys. Not very relaxing for the mamas. But I guess that's what Starbucks (in all its evil, franchising glory) is for. Grande skinny mocha no whip, thankyouverymuch.

Per request I made a mixed CD for one of the young, hip girls on my trivia team. I am supposed to deliver it to her tonight at the pub. I am secretly afraid that she will listen to it and think I am an old and tragically lame person. I am also secretly ashamed that I give a poo. Ah well, such is life.

My old band (Dabenport) was just asked to submit a song for a compilation being put out in England. There are going to be a bunch of kick booty bands on there with them, including The Brian Jonestown Massacre. You might know them from the recent documentary DIG! about their ongoing feud with The Dandy Warhols. Yeah, maybe not. Anyway, I am SO jealous. I want to be on a cool English compilation record. Whatever. I get a 2.5 year old rock god in his own mind.

I win.

We went to meet Curious George at the local kids' book store yesterday. The little kid in the blue jacket couldn't get enough. George was super nice and by the time we left Henry got the courage up to go give him a big hug all by himself. We didn't get a picture of that, though... Posted by Picasa

This one is a little better. I felt bad standing there until we got a really good one, so it will have to do. Henry isn't too sure about ole George, though-look at that sideways look! Posted by Picasa

Well, well, well, haven't we had a busy week? After being stuck inside with the Typhoid Mary twins all last week, we have been quite the about towners this week. Monday we went to knitting, which was fabulous. Tuesday was co-op at Fyffe's house, where we looked after the 6 wee beasties for a few hours. It is always interesting to do co-op with someone new. Fyffe and I couldn't be more different, but it worked out just fine. I am hoping that some of her organizational skills rubbed off on me. Wednesday we went to the Pack library for a little show they put on called Preschoolers We Love You. It was funny. About halfway through, Henry hopped down from my lap, announced "Henry go home now", and walked off. Heh. We waited in the kids' library until the show was over and then we went to lunch with some other mamas and kids. It was SO nice to get out and see people! And the weather was gorgeous, so it was nice to walk around downtown a bit. We haven't been able to do that in a while. Yesterday we went to the community center and ran around like crazy people. Good times. This morning Henry woke me up and we played for a while. Then he put on his new hat and sunglasses, so I had to run and get the camera and that turned into a little impromptu photo shoot. The only way he'd let me take his picture was if I turned around the screen so he could see himself. Many self portraits were taken. Then we went to the book store and played with the train table and read a bunch of books. I drank a well deserved cup of frou frou coffee. Yumma.

Bam got out of jury duty, so she, Libby and Kevin will be coming down soon. Next weekend? Or maybe the weekend after. No, I think it's next weekend. Yay! I can't wait to see them! I have to call her and make some plans.

We got our state tax return yesterday so we went to the brand new Old Navy to celebrate. Pth. They are doing this whole bizarre bohemian meets the 80s thing I just can't get on board with. Kyle got a pair of pants and Henry got a few things, but it was mostly a bust. I think we might go get Henry a new pair of shoes today. His old ones are getting way too small.

In knitting news, I am trying frantically to make enough stuff to have another HC stocking next week sometime. I have the monster pants, and I am working on another pair of MOM ones. I think I might do a few custom slots, too and that will do it. I need to find a screenprinter to do a few matching shirts for me. I have no idea where to find one, though. Hmph.

Okay, back to the needles. I have posted a couple of pictures below. Scroll, baby.

I opened my Hyena Cart store today at about 1pm. I sent a newsletter out to my old customers and posted about it at a couple of my boards about 10 minutes later. About 15 minutes later, there were 39 people viewing my page. It stayed the most viewed page all day. I just came home from trivia and 2 things have already sold. Yay!!! They like me! They really like me!

After buying fancy yarn and getting all excited about it, I think I might abandon my Knit Olympics project. I am supposed to cast on at 2pm today, but the more I think about it, the lamer cabled longies sound. Would they really be cute? I don't know. I decided to look up a pattern for a nice Celtic knot cable I could do up the leg. Ummmm...no. There are charts and graphs involved that make the math section of the GRE look like 2nd grade addition. There is no way. But it would be MUCH cooler to do. I dunno, I haven't decided yet. Ugh.

Wednesday, February 08, 2006

Last night Henry went to bed at about 8:30. I went to bed at 10:30 but couldn't fall asleep until about 11:30. He woke up a little after 12 and I stayed with him for about an hour. Back to bed. He woke up at about 1:30 saying that his ear hurt. Uh oh. I took him out into the living room thinking that sleeping with me holding him upright on the couch might make him sleep better. Nope. I finally managed to get him back to sleep and got back in bed around 4:30-5 this morning. He woke up for the day at 6:30, again complaining about his ears. Th next 3 hours was basically him screaming about everything: his shirt, his socks, having to change his diaper, wanting to watch a "pickle movie" whatever that means, etc. Finally I got an appointment at teh doc at 2:45. Thankfully he took an early nap and was relatively happy for the rest of the afternoon leading up to the appointment. Dr. Rob looked in the first ear and declared it "full of puss, super red and bulging". Not good. He said that the second ear was better, but not by much. He said it must have been hurting him pretty badly. Poor little man. So off we went to get the prescription filled. It is a HUGE bottle of antibiotics. HUGE. 3x a day for 10 days. Should be fun. The good news? With Henry's new insurance, we had NO co-pay, not for the appointment or the prescription. Yay!

Tuesday, February 07, 2006

* I got in on the Uruguan merino deal, but I probably won't be able to get my hot little hands on any much before June. Apparently the Uruguans (I know I am spelling that wrong, but don't care to look it up) aren't much on the hustle.

* Henry woke up in a decent mood! He is currently munching a pb&j and watching 101 Dalmations for the 80billionth time.

* All I have to do is upload my pictures to the storefront, and viola-I'm in bidness. I think I am going to make one more pair first-light blue with a green froggie on them. I looked at all of the pictures I have so far: black, black, brown, brown, and a single solitary hot pink. I need the light blue to soften up the line a bit. I just have to stitch a goldfish on the bum of my current project and I can start them. I can have them done by tomorrow night and have the store opened by Thursday or Friday. *bites nails*

* As some of you know, Kyle and I both got gift certificates for Xmas. His was from REI and mine was from Zappos, both meant for shoes. When the ones Kyle liked from REI didn't fit I, being the amazingly cool wife that I am, found a pair for ME on REI and let him have my Zappos card with the understanding that when he got his refund for the REI shoes that didn't fit him, I would immediately purchase the North Face Bolt beauties they had ON SALE. We got the refund yesterday. They are out of my size now. Stupid shoes. Now I have to give in and actually go BUY shoes at a store and let Kyle use the REI money for stupid hiking gear. The thing about hiking gear is: either he will never use it and it will be a waste of money, or he'll use it all the time, leaving me home with the baby. Either way- mama ain't happy.

* Henry and Kyle are sick. No fun. We missed knitting yesterday and we are currently missing my beloved co-op right now. I want my 3 hours, dammit! Ah well. I am bound and determined to have a fun day, but Henry is getting stir crazy. I am about to break out the big guns...glitter glue.

* My neighbor Gladys (of course her name is Gladys) keeps coming to my door with big bags of pecans from her sister's pecan tree for us. She is sweet as pie, but along with the pecans comes a request for us to attend her Baptist church ("the preachin' starts at 11") and a little piece of paper telling me that I am a sinner and I must repent. Dear Gladys, all the pecans in the world aren't getting me one inch closer to that Baptist church. When I told her that we probably wouldn't be going, she asked me if we were going to a different church. I tried to break it to her gently that we weren't church type people, but she just looked at me like she felt badly that poor little Henry was going to burn in Hell and told me about their excellent childcare. Pth.

* Okay, it is an hour and change later. Glitter glue? Is Satan's plaything. There is glitter all over everything I own. Henry looks like Ziggy Stardust.

* I came in here to check my email (I heard the unmistakable 'ping' of incoming mail from the next room) and left Henry at his table with crayons. He came in with a sticker book asking me to take a sticker off for him. I did so, he said thank you, and then went right outside the door, laid down on the floor and went to sleep. He's just laying there on the floor sleeping. Weird.

* I am paranoid about the new storefront. I want it to be the perfect grand opening and I'm afraid no one is going to care. I am going to be like the super unpopular girl waiting to be asked to the 8th grade dance. *sigh* I also wish I knew some html so I could go in and futz with it. But that would be all sorts of bad. Must. Not. Futz. With. Code... I need to take advantage of this sunny day to go get some pictures of my shtuff outside. It looks so much cuter on a baby, but Henry refuses to be my little supermodel.

* I volunteered to knit a pair of shories/longies a month for a group who gives them away to mamas in need. The bad: I have no time, especially trying to amass an instock store. The good: I just got an email from a mama in tears telling me how much I rock. That's kind of cool. Also? One of the other knitters for the group has a connection to wholesale, hand dyed Uraguan merino wool. She offered to cut us in. For about 75 cents more than I buy my regular wool for. Ummmm...*pees pants with excitement* Go take a look at my preeeeciiiiioooooouuuuuus... Kyle was much less excited than I was. Probably because our little bedroom cubby overfloweth with yarn. But not kettle dyed, Uraguan merino wool. Preeeeetty.

* The woman who is sponsoring the Knit Olympics is the same woman who wrote that little "You knit too much" book mama got me for Xmas. She so funny.

* We kicked all different shades of ass at trivia last night. Yup.

* Erica made the Rebelles!!! They are having their first show on March 8th. We are SO getting a sitter an dgoing to see her burlesque debut. Yay!

* I should really scoop Henry up off the floor, put him in bed and finish the goldfish pants I am working on.

* Kbye.

Our lives have been even less interesting than usual lately.

I have been concentrating on knitting up things for the new store front and thinking of new ideas for things to put in there. I made a small pair of monkey shorts, but I need a couple of new designs. I am thinking about doing a boombox, Mr. Yuck and possibly an old school anchor. I like the idea of doing old flash tattoo designs, but most of them are too difficult. Some things just don't translate to wool. I really want to think up some really cool computer geek pattern, but since I am just barely computer literate, the only things I can come up with are emoticons and acronyms-both which would make a true geek nauseous. I really want to do the Atari symbol, but I don't want to post any copyrighted stuff on the new site.

Speaking of geeks, am I the only one watching Beauty and the Geek? Am I the only one sad that Tristan is gone? I'm even kind of sad that Chris is gone, and he's an ass. I wanted Cher to go. She's not even the kind of bitch that is interesting to watch, you just want to hit her in the knees with a big stick. Ah well. Survivor sucked, too. I hate it when the women are idiots. Why the hell would you vote out the only person on your team who has any idea what they are doing? I was pulling for them, since I can't help but pull for the underdog, but now I can't. Scrappy underdogs are inherantly lovable and great. Underdogs who don't have a chance in hell because of their own idiocy make me want to steal their flint and run away. The Office continues to be the best show on tv. Jim + Pam = Tru Luv 4Evah.

Henry has become quite the little empathetic kid. We were listening to Rufus Wainright on the way home the other day and he said "sad, sad song". I couldn't believe it. He wanted to watch Sesame Street A to Z (with Steve Corell, so awesome) and I couldn't find it. I said "I'm sorry, baby, I don't know where it is". He patted my knee and said "That's okay, mama, we watch this one" and handed me a different dvd, lol. He has started kissing peoples' boo boos when they say ouch. He says "Don't worry" to us when we say something is broken. He is the best kid ever. Remind me about this the next time I write about what a beastie he is, k?
